Measuring guide

How to measure your room

Ten minutes with a tape measure and a helper is all it takes to get the size right.

Room width Room length
Your rug
  • Measure wall to wall in both directions and note the shortest span.
  • Leave a border. Keep 20 to 30 cm of bare floor every side in living rooms.
  • Bedrooms: extend about 60 cm past both sides of the bed.
  • Dining rooms: add 60 cm beyond the table so chairs stay on the rug.
  • Mark it out with painter's tape and live with the outline for a day.
